Trumpington Park Primary School opens doors to local stakeholders
Local councillors , community leaders and stakeholders of Trumpington Park Primary School have been to visit the new state-of-the-art building for the first time since its completion.
Following a £17 million investment from Cambridgeshire County Council, the Trumpington Park Primary School building is now complete and opened for local councillors and stakeholders to view at the end of the Autumn/Winter term.
The school opened in September 2017, initially providing places for two reception classes. A pre-school provision is also on site which is run by the Pre-school Learning Alliance. Over time the school will grow into a three-form entry primary school for up to 630 children aged 4 to 11 years old.
Trumpington Park Primary School's headteacher, Mel Shute, spoke of the new building: "The completion of the school building is a historic moment for the local community. The new school will be a vital part of the community for many years to come, offering new school places to a great number of local families.
"We have enjoyed opening our doors to the public for the first time and welcoming our first set of pupils into our reception classes in September. We are excited about working closely with the community in future years as we grow and develop."
The new primary school is run by the Cambridge Primary Education Trust (CPET), which already runs three local primary schools, including Histon and Impington Junior School which is rated Outstanding by Ofsted.
By being part of the Trust, Trumpington Park will benefit from CPET's passion to share best practice and resources to deliver the best possible primary education for its pupils.
CPET worked in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council and Parkside Federation Academies (PFA) in developing the school.
Simon Bywater, Chairman of the Children and Young Person Committee said: "Cambridgeshire County Council has worked in partnership with the school, as well as Kier Construction and Frank Shaw Associates to design and build the new school at Trumpington Park. Along with Trumpington Meadows, Fawcett Primary and Trumpington Community College the new school meets the need for school places for children in this growing community on the southern edge of Cambridge.
"In this first year there will be children starting in the reception classes and the school will grow to ensure that families can secure places in a local school as more new housing is built."
